What is your favourite tool?
This is a hard one for me, I love them all? I think I will go with the soldering torch as it does not always perform how I expect, still so much to learn.

I do love the torches as well. Always remember to be respectful of the flame but not fearful.
My favourite tool is …those who know me…. The FILE. I still firmly believe if you can file (solder and saw), you’ll pretty much be able to make anything. Don’t forget ancient jewellers didn’t have all these fancy tools we now have. They managed to make exquisite things with very basic tools.
Files. So much to say about about them and I am by no means an expert. There are course, files designed to remove lots of metal. And there are files so fine they feel like soft skin, designed to finish or remove a tiny amount of metal and leave far less scratches. And a gamut of grades in between.
Files can help you shape a piece of metal, you just have to know where to start. Don’t be afraid of using a file, have a play on a scrap piece of silver you might have. But do use a separate set of files for silver and copper.
If you ever have a filing question or filing conundrum, come and have a chat with me and see if we can brainstorm a solution.
Have you got a soldering or filing question or story to share here?
